They're taking the mickey, surely. It looks like the 1960's idea of what technology would look like in the 1980's.

There's a new iPad coming, but it may not be the Air 3 | TechRadar
http://www.techradar.com/news/mobile-co ... -3-1315828

It must be difficult to sell tablets these days, most non-geeks I talk to don't even care if they've bought a second-hand iPad Mini over... that big iPad they can't remember the version of, for instance.

And anyone I know who bought Android never touched Apple and vice versa (though I've had to tell quite a few people they've run out of space on the cheaper iPads). In fact, the only time they bought a new tablet was when their kid smashed the original or it was years old.

I'd been thinking about that just recently. The truth is the last thing I need is another portable drive after removing one that had failing sectors etc after years and using it as an emergency backup, and by then I'd be looking a new laptop anyway which should have a much bigger drive to start with. Though that's not to say that alleged 'failure' rate isn't to be sniffed at.

Um yeah...
Quote:
However, on the flipside, SSDs experienced a considerably higher rate of uncorrectable errors. Over 20% of flash drives develop uncorrectable errors over a four-year period, and 30 to 80% develop bad blocks. Previous HDD research indicated that only 3.5% of disks were blighted by bad sectors over a 32 month period.

Notice how they changed the wording from SSD to Flash? Flash drives include USB sticks, Compact Flash, SD, MicroSD... need I go on?

Netflix owns up to throttling streams for some carriers | TechRadar

Somewhat related, the 'auto' setting is absolutely dire when viewed on the PS4... The foreground looks fine, the background looks like it was shot in the 80's and then transferred to VHS.

Toshiba: We're stopping making consumer laptops | TechRadar
http://www.techradar.com/news/mobile-co ... ps-1318014

Toshiba's used to be brilliant, big sturdy buggers. Then all they became was big and nasty. The amount of them I saw in recent years with trackpads that didn't work and keyboards that flexed was ridiculous. Some sadist even put Windows 8 on one of them...

"New features" which seem to have the same attempt at youthful exuberance as a politician gleefully announcing a love of The Artic Monkeys.
