I honestly can't see it being approved for service by the various authorities.

Isn't this based on a news article from several months ago?

Yes, I think it is. It boils down to the cost of making a 'standing' plane meet required safety standards. The bracing and re-enforcement necessary to ensure that a standing passenger can be safely restrained during take-off, landing (or crashing) increases the weight of the plane so much that it's uneconomical to run compared to a plane with seating.

They'd never get it past health and safety. Not that people would want it. It wouldn't cut fares by much, just boost their profits.

He said that standing fares would be guaranteed £1.

No, that's included - but if you want it pressurised in the cabin then that's extra!

Would still work out cheaper than almost all other operators.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Hell, why not go the whole hog and use Indian train methods and strap passengers to the wings?

On a long haul they could have those beds like in pod hotels and cram them in.
