Any club has a the right to bar admission, without giving a reason. They're private premises after all. Their mistake was actually telling people what the reason was...

It's a bit of a grey area, if there's any hint of discrimination then you'll have Trading Standards and/or the Police on your arse.

Perhaps a "Fat Girls" night with a "Bring along your sllimmer friends" rider would be an idea for the club. Maybe give them all free entry.
Might smooth a few ruffled feathers.... though blokes would still have to pay to get in !

I've never liked night clubs because:
1 you have to pay to get in.
2 the drinks are too expensive when you do.
3 you have to shout at the person next to you as the music is so loud.
4 you have to dress a certain way (in some towns) to get through the door.
5 I hate dancing
Give me a pub any day.

Actually while say “No fat people” would probably be OK (there is no Fat discrimination laws (yet)) saying “No fat girls” would be as you are therefore (in theory) saying fat blokes can come in and so discriminating purely on the sex of the person trying to get in
