My Gmail account has delivered two spam emails in the last two days to my inbox. Gmail is usually excellent at filtering these things into my spam folder...

My ISP's spam filter seems to work perfectly for me. It's been ages since spam got through.
I forget what level I've got it set at (you can choose how agressive it is). To make sure all genuine emails get through I've set up a white list.

Don't see much spam (about 1 or 2 a month on Hotmail - account active since 1996), on my others I don't see any.

That said, it is a constant battle between the spammers and the filter writers...

Am I the only one who thinks we need some kind of name authentication system on email?

Not sure how it would work but it would need some sort of security certification.

It just seems silly to me that we're trying to filter the spammers out rather than engineering them out.

I presume you mean some sort of add-on for SMTP? The problem is that if you start meddling with SMTP then mail servers may not talk to each other properly, if you create a replacement for SMTP then how can you send mail to another SMTP server? SMTP is everywhere...

It can be done, but it's up to mail administrators to implement it, for example Google requires an email address to send mail from one of it's accounts, on the other hand Aber uni only requires you to be inside the aber network, then you can FTP right into the mail server and send mails to anyone, from anyone!

Go to your Application settings and remove the app that seems to be added when you read the message.

It's some trojan or other that came to me from another friend, and then it seems to pick up my entire friend list.

Bastards.

In fact, it's nearly made my mind up to follow Dave and commit FB suicide soon.

Who?! If it's me, I'm not on a computer to sort it out. Though I haven't been bothered by it, so probably isn't me. Apologies if so!
