I was just thinking, I've been working for over 20 years and I haven't made anything.

I've written lots of software and I've assembled some computers over the years, but I haven't actually "made" anything. Currently, I work for an advertising agency, so not making anything. I'm shortly switching to a manufacturing company, but, again, I'll be working in IT, so I won't be making anything there...

I know CosmicJack used to work for an engineering company, but what about the rest of you, anybody out there actually make anything?

I make model railways and stuff. It's a hobby I share with Best Beloved and lots of other surprisingly interesting folk all round the globe. I'm a little unusual in being a girl in what's seen as a sad bloke's hobby, but there's a few of us about.

BB and I knock models together out of scraps, raw materials, kits of varying materials. I love the research side, studying drawings and photos to get that little extra detail, constructing and then painting the models. I'm not so keen on the "playing trains" bit, but I muck in as required.

It's the whole "world in miniature" thing that gets me, I think. I've loved detailed models since I was tiny. I blame my Dad.

(I also do that creative DTP and web sh!t, but that's just to earn money to make things I like ;))

Tricky one this - I could have put my tick in either the "make something" or "creative" box as my job involves both. I have to be creative in order to develop new products, but once I've done that they do actually get made (occasionally), so a bit of both, although I don't actually take part in the actual manufacturing stage.

In my second job I did the same sort of thing, but it was a lot more hands-on - develop a new product, go on the plant and make some small-scale batches to check it could be made, carry out a trial somewhere and iif all goes well, supervise the first few full-scale batches. It was a nice feeling to watch a tanker laden with 20 tonnes of something I'd made leaving the factory.

Currently a student, though in work doing a service.
My life is probably destined to offer services rather than delivering a physical thing.

I voted for the creative one.

I'm a programmer so I reckon I "make" programs. I also do a bit of photography.

I am a programmer and web designer as well, but I don't make anything physical, like a chair, car, house. What we create is non-corporeal...

I currently work in a 2nd/3rd line support role, so don't make anything, except people happy when I fix their PCs.

:D

And also are they life size and can I have one please? ;)

I just think it'd be cool to have a life sized penguin model in the garden to confuse the foxes... :P

It's for an exhibition for the charity I work with.
And thankfully, they're not life sized. I'd hate to mixing and working with that much plaster of paris!
