Just received a couple of letters from Reader's Digest telling me I'm in the running to win £100,000 etc... Never seen one of these before and from briefly reading it it looks like I don't have to actually buy anything. They "invite" me to sample a book for 7 days but that's only if I reply in the envelope marked "YES". Does anyone have any experience of these? Are they worth sending off or am I signing up for a lifetime of pestering letters asking for money etc... |

Yes. Step away from the prize draw. Burn it, whatever, but do not enter anything. They are the Antichrist, Satan incarnate. You'll be plagued for ever by pestering letters. They'll want to subscribe to their bloody magazine. And then they get all uppity if you deign to not renew, threatening you with all kinds of stuff. Once they have you in their grip, it is very hard to get away from the Reader's Digest. I can say that with bitter experience. |

They hounded my maternal Grandmother. Towards the end of her life, she perhaps wasn't as sharp as most of us, and was ever so pleased to be receiving letters from a nice man called 'Tom Champagne' at the Reader's Digest. I shudder to think how much money she spent with them as a result. |

You won't win the money, so it's just unecessary hassle, recycle the paper. |

Totally right. They keep you stringing along for ages with the promise of the prize but you'll probably die of old age waiting to see anything of it. I think I stayed in one of these prize draws for months on end and in the end just gave up on it. |

a bit like dialling an 0900 to enter a draw on the tv, just don't. |

I bet they still get them addressed to me at the flat I left 15 years ago ![]() I used to do them when the postage was free. I stopped when it was only free on the "yes" envelope. I wouldn't bother now even with free postage, because they make one draw last about 10 years and I don't have that much free time to stay in it! I actually really like a lot of their stuff though ![]() |
