Yeah, this has been doing the rounds for a while now.
It's really quite impressive the way he gets to the top and (seemingly) isn't even holding on to anything while he sorts out his carabiner and safety line.

[LIFTED] that. I genuinely felt a little sick watching that.

I would not do that. I would be wearing an extra backpack containing a parachute just in case. Base jump your way back down.

My palms were sweating just from watching it.

Now that would be great in IMAX 3D.

Yeah, I think that would actually be easier to do, than it is to watch. Feel a bit sick now.

I was thinking that when the narrator said something like 'if a storm is coming, there's no quick way down'. I was thinking 'oh yes there is :-D'. Yeah, some sort of parachute would seem to be a good idea. It seems a bit odd to drag a 30 kilo toolbag up there though - they must know why they're going up there and therefore what tools would be required for the particular job. And what could you do anyway? it's basically a big wire, it's not as if there's a ton of moving parts or anything.

I've been 1600 feet up a cliff when climbing, but when you do that (unless you're a total maniac) you keep yourself tied on with pitons & such. Plus on a cliff you at least can't fall forwards, generally. In theory, as log you keep to the 'three points of contact' rule you're safe whatever you do but still. I guess you wouldn't want to be the bloke off sick when it came up that that job needed doing...

That's a very tall mast though - the highest one in the UK is near me, and the one in the clip is about 1/3 higher than that. The Winter Hill one you don't have to climb the outside because it's hollow so you just ride a lift all the way to the top if you need to.

I saw a video of a guy on the top of a tower - presumabily suicidal - who slips and falls.
