Facebook have added a new feature to the "friending" procedure...

Instead of the accept or ignore on the old friend requests, they have replaced the ignore with a "not now" button. You can then go to your profile at a later date and accept or ignore them.

What is interesting, and alarming, is that the moment the person makes the friend request, they will be able to see you wall and all your posts, even if you say "not now", it isn't until you actually go to the trouble of going to the relevant friend maintenace page and ignore them, that their access to your posts will be blocked!

Every time I hear a new Facebook story, it just makes me happier that I deleted my account...

Edit: It seems that they can only see your posts, if you haven't set them to 100% private.

Well, I'm happy for you.
Other people are perfectly happy using the service. I know how much privacy I require and what of the information I post there to be private/public.
For me it's not a problem.

If people want to read my mutterings they're more than welcome. They'll probably get bored very quickly though.

Facebook has been good to me, just this week an old friend got in touch who I haven't seen in years as she now lives in USA. If it wasn't for facebook I doubt she would've found me. I almost clicked ignore too as I didn't recognise her profile pic!

Are you at all interested in Diaspora, Dave?

Not really. I never "got" Facebook anyway. don't use any social networking site. I use Twitter for public musings, but "just among friends", the closest would be these forums.

Edit: Mark, the main reason I left wasn't because I couldn't understand and control the privacy settings, it is hard work and means you need to check them on a regular basis, as Facebook seemed to want to reset everything to open, when they released a new feature, but because most of my friends and family can barely use a computer and have no idea that all their private musings among their friends were being broadcast to all-and-sundry.

I think (i hope) I set my photo albums to friends only. Not sure about my wall and other bits.

I've got back in touch with friends I'd lost along the way, people from school that I used to be good friends with.
Recently, I met up with one such chap and his family while they were on holiday, and it was really good to catch up and talk.
It didn't help though, that after a 15 year absence, I happened to be dressed like a pirate and waving a flag. Ah well.

Point is, Friendface has put me in touch with some people I otherwise wouldn't have been in touch with. And whilst I may not be about to say 'come and stay at my house and let's pretend we're 18 again' to them, it's nice for us all to be in touch again.

All my images are public, apart from the mobile images, which are friends only, as that's the default setting by Fb and to change it will impost the album limit of 200 images, and whilst I don't have anywhere near that amount of mobile uploads, I'm futureproofing. (8+)
Of course, should Fb change this in future then I'll obviously revise things in accordance.

Yes and today it has been impossible to reject people as well. My daughter has been trying to block someone all day and it keeps say not available at this time.

I agree with the Professor, I have also found old lost friends on Facebook and it's also allowed me to keep in touch with what my well spread out family are doing.
