My lil sis' birthday tomorrow. I ordered a boxset for her and some stuff for myself. Because I wanted express shipping to arrive this evening, I ordered yesterday, before the deadline. The dvd boxset is supposed to be gift wrapped with a message.

Now at the moment, the status is and has been "not shipped yet". When you go into details, it states "ship soon". Nothing about it being dispatched or en route etc. Should I be concerned, bearing in mind it should arrive between 6-9pm tonight.

Have ordered via express delivery before but never as giftwrap/message and never for evening deliveries so not sure what to expect. Should i be concerned at this late stage in the day?

I usually get dispatch notifications from Amazon at the close of business - i.e. between 5 and 6pm.

Because I normally choose supersaver with my deliveries, I'm usually not too bothered with despatch times etc. Bu now it's an urgent order, I'm obviously much more anxious.

I guess we shall see this evening. Will be highly peeved if it doesn't arrive tonight.

Do Amazon offer same-day delivery? :?

If it's supposed to arrive today I would have thought they should have despatched it yesterday.

^^^That's what I thought. Should have been despatched last night for 6-9pm delivery today. I've had no emails or comments to indicate that there's a problem at any point. Just wondering whether they've not updated the status rather than try and despatch and deliver within the next six hours. I'll be home by around 1730 and he order is supposed to arrive 1800-2100. So either I'll be happy chappy or (more likely) a very unhappy chappy.

I just had a look at my online credit card statement. Amazon haven't deducted anything yet but even this can take a few days to show itself on the statement. Now wondering if there was a problem with payment eg entered card details incorrectly. If I'd known this was going to happen, I'd have headed into town tomorrow morning and bought everything there and then.

You best telephone or e-mail them, I expect they haven't shipped it.

I don't think Amazon take a payment until it's all packaged up. I think it's pretty impressive that people expect next-day delivery on such a variety of things these days. Go back twenty years, and it wouldn't have seemed possible! Rush-rush-rush!

I could have easily gone into town and bought these items but would have paid much, much more. If they offer next day delivery and I do everything they ask me to, I see no reason why they can't deliver the next day as promised. In the past, I've had orders from other companies sent out the same day to arrive early the following day.

Anyway, 1545 Amazon tell me the items have been despatched and should receive them tonight. That means just over five hours to reach my house, which ordinarily would be fine, but not so sure against rush hour traffic.

I agree. It's not so long ago that if you ordered anything mail order you expected to wait up to 28 days for delivery. Unthinkable now, what with the need for instant gratification. :)

It WILL be sent next day delivery

To get the item the day after you order it assumes they have same day dispatch though......

I'm on Amazon prime, so I get to track my deliveries and get free next day. Most of the time I don't get the dispatch message until about 8PM but the item still gets to me at Lunch time the next day.

So in that case, if it does not arrive tonight, will I get a refund having paid extra for next day evening delivery. Especially given that I ordered yesterday?

Wow! :o It arrived! Just now!

Wasn't delivered by an official Royal Mail person. In her 40s I'd imagine though looked like she was in her 50s. Tattoos on bare arms. No odour of tobacco. Wouldn't surprise me if she had turned up with piercings left, right and centre. But very polite.

I am stupendously impressed. I honestly didn't think they'd pull through but Amazon did. The only issue is I don't know whether they've sent the correct DVD boxset because it's giftwrapped (lovely golf paper, white "ribbon" and card with printed message).

My face is like this:
