Post V
Is the remake of V any good?

Channel One (or Virgin 1) has started advertising it.
I caught a bit of the first episode when Sky 3 showed it as an enticement ages ago and it looks quite good.
So, worth a a watch? The original wasn't too bad despite the twinkly special 1980's effects.

Not too mbad. When SyFy showed it, just as they get to the big “People of Earth” message from the visitors at the start of Ep 1, we had a power cut!

OK - it’s not got to the “we eat people” stage - but it’s covering the role of the media in dealing with politicians, and starting to define what a terrorist is. I felt it lumbered a bit too slowly. It’s not got as much in is as Battlestar Galactica has as far as comment on out society. I think they have been watching Blake’s 7 - Morena Baccarin is doing a very good Servelan. It’s worth a watch, and it’s got a second series, so hopefully the slow burn will start to reveal more.

The original V was intended to be a series about an invasion of the USA by a fascist foreign power. It was very much a Cold War story - but deemed too cerebral, so they changed it to lizards from space instead.

I liked it but I wouldn't say it was the greats tv show. Is it season two advertised or a re-run of season 1?

Seems there a lot of fans here, but the above two posts summarise my thoughts rather well.

In other words, meh.

I'm getting really annoyed with the long breaks American TV has started to take.

I think it’s a re-run of season 1. Channel 1 (née Virgin 1) seems to get second or third runs of newer stuff.

I note that a certain UK science fiction tale is making similar changes to its structure next year. You know Who.

It came as no surprise to me.
For the next season, it may become acceptable, I'll be interested to see/hear the reaction if it becomes the norm.

You can bet that if they pull it off next year, they’ll try again the following one. Mid-series regeneration? :o
