We’re a mixed bunch, and use differing types of computers. In the old place, a week would not pass without a Mac/Windows flame war. Here, we’ve survived with barely a scuffle. There have been a couple of small skirmishes, but on the whole, it’s been very pleasant carrying on without that incessant background noise.

I don’t miss the flame wars, and I don’t want to see them return. Well done, all! :D 8-)

With Gav and Marklar not posting on the same forum, there is not going to be much fighting.

True. While it was an interesting spectator sport, there was always the danger of getting dragged into it.

When I joined the old forums the flame wars were very immature, few people could speak authoritatively about the whole thing. Macs were PPC, PC's were beige.

The wars of late have been very interesting, people have more experience of both worlds, Macs run on Intel and PC's are no longer beige.
Heck, I even learnt a few things from the latter ones.

I enjoy them, though I must confess, I'm less equipped now than I was a few years ago. Windows has moved on and I've not moved with it.

I'm kinda glad there aren't any "flame wars" around here. Although if you still like to read them, have a look at this:http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs/paul/archive/2009/06/02/windows-7-rtm-in-july-ga-on-october-22-2009.aspx

Typical response from a cowardly MacUser.

;)

Is Marklar still posting over the other side? I check every now and then but I've not noticed him at all.

When Microsoft catch up with the rest of the game, and release Windows 7 which supports EFI in October, then there won't be any need for Apple to emulate such an outdated technology as BIOS.

In the mean time, Apple machines will continue to run Windows quicker than PCs. [ CLICKY ]

Yeah, I'm sure a iMac with a mobile Q9300 and a GT120 that's £1500 will keep up with a grand PC with a Q6600@4ghz and a 4890...

See, it's that easy! :P

Vista had EFi support when it was release as well. ;) Intel have been trying to get manufacturers to use it for the best part of a decade. Many main boards now use it, although they generally run a BIOS emulator, because XP doesn't support it.

Vista does, Linux does (for about 5 years or so) and OS X supports it...

Is EFI similar to the OpenBoot PROM?

If it has a similar command line access to the SPARC chips, it'll make x86 stuff much easier to use...Especially if operating systems support shutdown to EFI, it could make a world of difference when trying to do things over 9600 baud serial connection!

You're on about those stinky Linux machines aren't you? The ones which are rubbish and will never be as awesomer as a Windoze machine?

Thought so ;)
