Haha I remember the millenium party we had at our house.

Me and all my cousins were too young to drink at the time, but we were teenagers so of course we wanted to drink. We decided to steal some beers, stash them upstairs and drink them later when everyone else was drunk and wouldn't notice we were also a bit tipsy.

Soooo... we went downstairs, opened up the fridge and there were 8 cans of lager sat there, on their own looking perfect. We took them. About an hour later my dad comes up and interrupts our PlayStation session asking if we had seen Mark's beers anywhere. It turns out Mark was ill and couldn't drink Alcohol at the time, so his beers were alcohol free.

Of course we told him we hadn't seen them but quickly checked the cans we had stolen after he had gone.

We had stolen the alcohol free beers to try and get drunk on!

Scary to think that was 10 years ago...seems like yesterday.

???

Have you read it?

I don't get it?

Anywho, I read it a couple years ago. Very good book!

Definitely one to add to a list of books to read before you die!

That makes me sound like an alcoholic...I had whisky as a baby to help me off to sleep, and started drinking quarter pints of Guinness at the age of three

As to the book, I've never read it, though probably should try it...

I first read it around 1983. We were reading Brave New World in English Lit class, and the teacher suggested to me that I read 1984 as an interesting comparison. Both books remain firm favourites even today. This was the only time I enjoyed English lit at school. I read a lot, and I enjoy reading, and at school I consumed a lot of the library’s fiction section. Despite this, I found the subject of English Literature deathly dull. I much preferred the language side of the subject.

I am currently reading Natasha Randall’s translation of We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, written many years before 1984, and cited by Orwell as a very important book. Very similar themes to 1984, but from a post revolutionary Russian perspective. Go read.
