Leo Baxendale: Bash Street Kids and Minnie the Minx comic legend dies

Quote:
Comic artist Leo Baxendale, whose characters like the Bash Street Kids and Minnie the Minx entertained generations of young readers, has died. With his sense of anarchy and humour, Baxendale and his creations became a big part of the appeal of comics like The Beano from the 1950s. He was regarded by aficionados as one of Britain's greatest and most influential cartoonists.

Loved his work when I was young. He put so much detail in you could study it for ages.

It reminds me of Fenella, the kettle witch from Chorlton and the Wheelies.

very clever that TKJ cover. I thought it was jelly beans at first until I realised the shapes didn't fit and had to read the caption.

Netflix buys Scots comic book firm Millarworld - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-g ... t-40849525

Cool. Does make you wonder about a Kingsman follow up though - I seriously doubt they're done with it cinematically, so a third could be a big Netflix release in that sense.

Well my comic book intake has now reduced to just 2000AD and related Graphic Novels. I'm buying intermittent issues of the 2000AD Collection - mostly collections of stuff I used to own as individual issues - and taking advantage of the seasonal discounts on Comixology. I've bought and read Marshall Law, re-read The Dark Knight Strikes Again to see if it was the absolute mess I remembered (it was), and the first two volumes of The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen which were very good. In hardback form, I acquired The Hook Jaw collection (from the pages of Action) which was as appalling (in terms of violent content) as I remembered and - read in one go - very repetitive. Some of the artwork in the later issues is very poor.

But there is good artwork about! Simon Davis has come to the end of a great run on Slaine and i was so impressed with his artwork I bought a page of it directly from him.

Batman vs Ninja Turtles.

That’s right! TMNT invade Gotham City:

I cringed when I saw the youtube suggestion. But after watching it, I felt pumped. I’m confused.
