Hi all,

At work we have a process which allows us to connect to any serial port connected to that machine (~2000). The config file gives a value which is how often the process updates it's cache of these serial connections.

Allegedly, the config file used to say to update every 10 seconds, I was asked to change this to every 10 minutes (reading ~2000 devices thrashed the CPU too much). The value, however, was 1...So, assuming this is correct and 1=10seconds, what does 10 minutes equate to?

Basically, I was told to update the value to 600, however it's been over an hour and the process hasn't updated itself...

Cheers,
Ben

If 1 = 10 seconds

then 6 = 60 seconds = 1 minute.

10 minutes therefore = 60.

600 = 1 hour.

You need to set it to 60.

::EDIT D'oh!!!::

600 = 1 hour 40 minutes.

360 = 1 hour.

I might be way off mark, but my brain is telling that if...

1 = 10 seconds

Then

6 = 60 seconds, (1 minute)
60 = 600 seconds, (10 minutes)

I'm probably completely wrong though...

Although Foggy has just posted and it looks like I might be right ;)

A fresh pair of eyes often helps, mate.

Or in my case, a fresh eye and a "doesn't work properly" eye to keep it company ;) <-- a bit like that!

I've delved into the source and it appears even simpler, the value isn't seconds, it's minutes...So currently the process is updating every 10 hours :shock:
I'll leave it to see what's what in the morning, we don't add new serial connections often, so it doesn't affect many machines...

If I changed it now and restarted the process, I'd upset a lot of people in the middle of doing work...
