Storms are set to batter the UK on Monday, with downpours and winds of up to 65mph (105km/h) expected.

Wales and Scotland are expected to be worst hit, but it is unlikely that any region would escape the bad weather.

BBC forecasters say strong gusts could bring branches down as low pressure ushers in the autumn's first storms.

Severe weather warnings are in place in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and western counties of England, with snow and sleet forecast in some areas.

Snow flurries

BBC weather forecaster Alex Deakin said winds of 40 or 50mph would be typical on Monday, but could reach 65mph on western coasts.

Although the storms are fairly typical for the time of year, they follow a period of quite benign conditions, he added.

Parts of Wales and Scotland could see sleet on Monday, with snow flurries forecast over parts of the Scottish Highlands, Cumbria and the Peak District.

Rain is expected to spread eastwards throughout the day.

The longer-term forecast is also bleak, with storms and heavy winds likely to return by Friday after a brief respite in the middle of the week.

Am I the only one that enjoy this? I find it quite amusing to see a full size trampoline half way up a tree ;) or to see how many neighbours fences have been ripped off. its great for videoing, I went to the harbour years ago when we had VERY bad winds and the boats rocking so violently and the waves so huge above you. panicked at one point cos the wind was trying to push me over the edge of the harbour wall into the currents, wouldve been a goner, still fun times and thx for the headsup ;) might head down to said harbour tomorrow if its "that" bad

I'm not sure whether this is a good thing or a bad thing. I enjoy storms so long as I'm cosily wrapped up indoors. But I've got a week off and it means I'm gonna be stuck indoors rather than out and about! On the other hand, it means I don't get blown away whilst trying to walk to work!

I always feel sorry for the wildlife. The birds have a hard time finding food when it is so bad. Not just that but getting cold as a result of the damp.

We had high winds, like that, last week. Was a hairy drive to work - first time I really noticed that the Verso is high sided.

I woke up to the rain being battered against the window this morning at 04:50. Poor bird feeder was swinging wildly and I really didn't want to leave my nice warm bed. I hope it passes over the Midlands soon!!

It's always a joy when the wind picks up and they close the Port of Felixstowe stacking the Lorries on the old dual carriageway near work causing a bloody nightmare and detours to get to and from work.......

I popped out to get the car out of the garage and the amount of wind made me believe it was unsafe to leave my car outside. Hence I'm staying indoors. Rather frustrating as I has planned on popping to the chippy later.

It is not as if we have not had storms before, and we are still unprepared for them. :(

I got soaked and blown about trying to get to work this morning. This explains it I guess. I thought it was just normal November weather.

I can't believe that Caz used the words blown AND soaked in the same sentence and nobody made a crude remark!

C'mon people, I can't be expected to police every single post for possible innuendo laden content, can I? ;) :etc:
