With the heavy rainfall last night, it's become evident that there's a leak in the roof.

The problem is trying to find someone who can do the job properly and quickly without problems. Cue a minefield. I've never had to deal with this before and am a bit wary of being messed around.

Am based in Brum so ideally need someone local-ish. Do I try my luck with Yellow Pages, or is there something better?

We recently had issues with our flat roof at the back. It wasn't the roof itself, but the lead lining where it joins to the house. Since we replaced that it's been fine.
Shame you're not in Derby as I'd have been able to recommend a good builder.

Umm...do they call it a pitched roof? Like an inverted V but only from the side view. The front view would be I guess a rectangle/trapezoid.

The leak appears to be around the chimney and the flashing looks like it's coming away.

We were recommended a guy by a family friend but he's failed to turn up in the last week or so. Hence I've decided we need to get it done properly ASAP.

Aren't there 'review' sites for local trades-types? :?

If you can't get a personal rec. then Which? Local (local.which.co.uk) is a good place to start. A lot of 'referral' sites charge the trades to be on there, or require them to be some kind of member, so you're never too sure how genuine they are or if they're just big companies with deep pockets.

If it's just the lead flashing then it's a relatively easy fix.
