I dunno for anyone else, but it’s been a pretty awful year - and it’s only November. It started with me falling over in the snow in January and hurting my shoulder, and it’s progressed through a miscarriage and various other awful things to now. It seems that bad things are still happening, and as I wait for a close friend of the family to die, I feel that it’s just been one huge arse. It should have been a good year for us, but it’s been the polar opposite.
The thing is, other people we know also seem to be having a bad time of it. Has this been an exceptionally woe-filled year for other forumites?

2010 has been tainted by the death of Faye's father last Christmas, although good things have happened (I've graduated and got a job, Faye is in the process of setting up an exhibition group and has exhibited in London), the loss has really been noticeable. Coming up this Friday would have been hid Birthday, and in 30 days time is exactly one year from when it happened...

It's been pretty rubbish for me for a couple of years now. I remember hoping 2010 would be better than 2009, which had been an all-time low, only it somehow turned out ever so slightly worse. I have a feeling the planet has been through a something nasty on its journeys round the Sun and the galaxy, and it's affected everyone.
Things might be improving, though. Well, they seem to be in this corner of Blighty at least. I had a ray of sunshine last week, and another one just now. I've not felt quite so buoyant for a good long while. Something good has to be coming my way sooner or later.
I think, when times are tough and it seems like life can't throw enough poop at you, it helps to have a good network of friends. Even when your only discourse is through the medium of the internet or the occasional text message, it all helps to keep a little perspective.
If we can get through to the new year without starting a riot outside Parliament, I think we can begin to make 2011 a better place.

2009 ended badly for me, 2010 has been dealing with that, but it doesn't promise to resolve anything so it's likely to spill over in to 2011.

While I won't even try to match your year in the misery stakes, it hasn't been a great year. Don't get me wrong, it's had some highlights, but the trend has been a downward one. I'll be glad to see the back of this year, so we can start 2011 afresh.

I fear I must be in the minority on this one. Job has been going well (longest I've worked anywhere) and the calamity that was University seems to be behind me. I also got married, which was nice.

2010 has been fairly even for me, some positives, some negatives, but on the whole it hasn't been terrible. I haven't had a truly terrible year since 2006, the break-up of my marriage, my dads stroke and my sisters miscarriage all in one year, followed by depression and a really awful xmas.
2007 was better but not great, finding out I had a rare form of a meningococcal type virus, having to give up work because I couldn't function with headaches etc, but then things started to look up.
New Years Eve 2007/2008 I met my Mister, then in Feb started my job here which I love and life has generally been good overall since then. My life just seemed to turn around and even the bad things like my current swollen brain problems seem not so bad, not insurmountable certainly. I don't necessarily believe it's all to do with my Misters presence in my life, but being contented and happy at home has certainly given me a PMA boost which makes everything else easier to cope with.

Mine was about the same. Things haven't been great for a few years now, one problem after another, and I'm by no means out of the woods yet. It has become quite difficult to keep positive but I am hoping things will get better next year.

Well 2009 was bad, dead dad an all.
2010 wasn't so bad but just found out the firm my brother works for has gone into administration though, 3000+ workers not sure what's happening yet. Nice.

Last couple of years have been tough for me. Still I try and remain optimistic and hope the following year will be better.

2010 has been pretty good for me, but I'm stupidly lucky. 2009 was alright towards the end. 2008 was rubbish

Similar. The latter half of 2009 was bad for me. The first half of 2010 was bad for me. We shall see how the remainder of the year goes but could easily continue to have problems well into next year too.

My job has been extremely depressing at times and a large waste of my not inconsiderable enthusiasm and passion. However, this year (in fact last month) saw me debt free for the first time in at least 5yrs. It's also the longest I've worked anywhere for more than 7yrs. So I guess I should join you in that minority. That said, it's not been terribly positive in other areas. I spent the first 3mths of the year in emotional anguish due to a girl and I've spent most of the year with ants in my pants about the lack of direction in my life. I did however, have an awesome summer racing yachts, meeting new people and getting to the beach a lot. I hate Christmas though, and NYE is always a let down, so I've nothing left to look forward to this year. A holiday would be nice, as I haven't had a break all year.

You're not on your own, 2009 was my horrible anus and at the risk of jinxing anything, 2010 looks like being a good one.

I would say 2010 has been quite good so far - SWMBO hail, hearty and happy - Cats not sick - Kept Job - Cleared all debts (except Mortgage) - Done some improvements to the house - and a Holiday still to look forward to
So overall a good year
