Just been out training in the park and it's a ridiculously clear night.

I can even see Emley Moor mast from the park (it's about 20 miles away in a straight line).

All the stars were out so light pollution and cloud was fairly low.

There was a single cloud like mist streaking across the sky that just missed Ursa Major and went straight through Cassiopeia. I could have sworn it was the milky way but when I told my friends they just said it was a cloud.

I'm still almost certain that it was the Milky Way.

I would go out and take a photo but I don't think the camera would pick it up.

I might go check to see if it's still there. If it is then it was def the Milky Way.

I have seen it in the past but that was walking through the countryside at midnight with almost no light pollution and it was incredible!

There was nowhere near as much definition in the stars in it tonight but I still think it was it.

If you could see the Milky Way, I don't think it would be streaking across the sky.

Yes it does.

It's called the Milky Way as it is like a milky road going across the sky.

As in a cloudy like across the sky.

OK, streaking across the sky was prob not the best way to describe it.

A shooting star streaks across the sky.
I know what the milky way looks like and I agree, streaking wasn't the best way to describe it. (8+)
Still, pretty cool that you could see it. I take it your don't train in an overly urban setting, right?

Training in Roundhay Park.

I may take my camera down there now and try and get some long exposures :D

Well, the time I saw it before it was just like that.

There was too much light pollution so it was a lot fainter so it wasn't anywhere near as spectacular.

It's certainly a cold but clear night. I expect there's too much light pollution to see much here but I might have a look later. Hope you get the chance to get a photo or two.

On a clear night with little light pollution you can see the Milky Way with the naked eye.

So, quite possibly, you did.

You should be able to see it as long as the sky is reasonably dark. Unless it is really dark it is not impressive. Damn light pollution.

Lower than normal yes.

It is very rare that I can see as many stars as I saw last night.

With the sky being so clear of cloud it reduced the amount of reflected light.

Fair enough, you'll have to forgive my perspective given my location. I never imagined low light pollution to exist in built up areas, as I've never seen it anywhere else in the UK.
