Goddammit I can't sleep. Was on nights last week and because I've got this week off, my body hasn't been forced to switch back to normal time yet. Consequently, although I slept for two hours, I've been wide awake since 0200 and was rather hungry. So I went and made a quick cheese sandwich (one slice of bread).

TBH for me, cheese sandwiches are great because: easy to make, fill me up, give me unusual dreams.

What do you go for and why?

Toast some bread, butter generously, add cheese, between bread slices, microwave for 30 seconds, turn, microwave for 30 seconds, eat.

That or biscuits and copious amounts of tea...

Just recently I've been eating quite a quantity of crisps.
Sometimes I'll have a peanut butter sandwich.
Biscuits are always available so they're an easy choice.

That's a meal, not a snack.

Is that what constitutes a meal for you? It has to have veg/meat in it?

I'd have thought that the dividing line between a meal and a snack was purely one of size. Whether it's a balanced meal or not is another matter.

I would argue that time to prepare would also be a major factor. I don't want to wait half an hour for a snack, I'd probably not want to wait much longer than ten to fifteen minutes from "I'm peckish" to "Mmmm, food".

Fifteen minutes IMO is enough time to prepare a meal.

A snack IMO should take no longer than five minutes to prepare and five minutes to eat.

I sometimes have cereals if I crave something at night. Generally though I am very good and do not snack *angelic*

If I've been drinking then it's a whole different ball game, any good intentions go out the window and it could be anything from eggy bread to cheese on toast to griddled toasted sandwiches with lashings of melted cheese with tuna or ham or anything else I have to hand. Have even been known to knock up some pasta in the night. Tuna mouse is another fave.

My tuna mouse takes 5 minutes to prepare and an hour to cook in oven. Still a snack in my eyes. And definitely worth the wait!
