Since they're literally just about to bowl the first ball, I think we need a thread...

Should be an easy win, Australia are rubbish at cricket.

4/158 after the first 50 overs.

Certainly not my favourite sport but entertaining so far.

Great hat-trick by Siddell.

260 all out. Not surprising, the Aussies haven't lost an opener in Brisbane for about 5000 years.

Fair point. The main issue now is the wicket. The Gabba is famously hard to bat on early (*cough* you fool Strauss *cough*) but becomes more batting friendly as time goes by. England may already be looking to salvage a draw from this if they're lucky, and we're only at the end of the first day.

You have to say congrats to Siddle for the hat-trick though. He's had a pretty troubled year and to end it on such an obvious high is great. His birthday yesterday too apparently. Maybe England felt like giving him a present...

Yup, it was pretty much nip and tuck until he waded in with that. I caught the hat-trick on the news, any hat-tick is good but they were 3 lovely deliveries.

Typical though, I was listening to MV commentate when England started fielding. As Swann came up, he said something along the lines of "he's got 25% of his wickets in his opening overs, can he do it again...". Of course he then gets hit for 2 fours of the first 2 balls. :? :D

Hang on - He won the toss?!?! I glanced at the score before setting off this morning, and presumed Punter put us in for a knock. Even I knew that this wicket was meant to offer more runs as it ages!

It seems to be common knowledge but even MV was saying he made the right call... :?

I meant more the 'getting out for a duck' part than the 'winning the toss' part.

Ian Chappell doesn't reckon 260 is too bad a score. From what I saw, I didn't think so either, if England bowl well, it could be there or thereabouts.

Linky dinky doo.

Ah ha, I see. I can't remember the last time he started off well TBH.

It is true, no score is ever a bad score until the other side have batted.

Probably won't get along to see any of it live even though it's happening just down the road. I am getting some good banter in with some of the others in the office though.

Good to get Ponting out after lunch and Clarke is looking shaky.

Agreed.

A too and fro session it seems. 220-5 at close of play, a hat-trick is needed I feel.

Blimey. I think this is going to be a hell of a series.
