I'm about to pay the holding deposit for this flat and I want to check that I haven't forgotten anything off my budgeting... The allowances I have made are... Rent Council Tax Bills (Electricity, Water, no gas) Internet Fuel (Car) Phone (Mobile phone) BMF (Fitness thing) Car Insurance Food Loan Endsleigh (Contents Insurance) These are all my recurring costs but I pay all in at the moment so want to check this stuff. Is there anything glaringly obvious that I have missed? Is there anything else I should consider? I have still made sure I have disposable income but I haven't calculated it into these numbers. Thanks for any help. |

You pay income tax and stamp through PAYE? If so, then that list looks okay to me. |

Yeah I've calculated all deductions off my salary through PAYE. That's cool. Thanks |

A holding deposit is one thing, but you still have to pay a bond usually. This is normally at least as much as a month's rent, and often a bit more. |

Have you got Sky TV or Cable? Plus, TV licence. Oh, if you're planning on doing a Post Office mail re-direct, and you want to pay by card, you must do it before you change your address with the bank - the PO won't accept the card payment if you've already changed to the new address. |

Might be worth adding car tax so you can pop the money to one side each month so you can pay a year as a lump sum |

What about service charge and ground rent? For my flat I pay £1300 a year for the service charge and £125 a year for Ground Rent (split into 2 payments a year) |

Ooh, good point. I think I'm actually gonna set up a savings account with standing orders for all this annual stuff (like service+MOT and stuff). Then when it comes time to pay I can take it from there and not risk spending it. |

Deposit - I had to pay one month's rent as deposit and first month's rent in advance. So expect to give double your rent as soon as you've signed on the dotted line. Internet - does this include line rental? Fuel (Car) - MOT, tax, repairs eg tyre replacement Sewage - I got a separate charge for this instead of combined with my water bill. |

You might want to check if any of the facilities like water or electricity are on a meter. Apart from that looks like you got everything covered. Excited for you ![]() |
