*shrug* if 'we' are going to make people rich, I'm not sure we then have grounds to complain about what they spend money on. She's rich because lots of people bought her records. I'd complain about that as they're mostly awful, but what she does with the proceeds is her own affair. I suppose at least she's not sticking it up her nose, as it were.
For what its worth, that car sells for £1.3m but it costs roughly £4m to make each one. It's a bit mental.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Really. They're effectively a technology demonstration. The company (Bugatti, which is basically volkswagon) decided they were going to make an car with 1,000 BHP (for reference, the average car has between 100 and 200BHP). It does roughly 250MPH and 0-60 in 2.4 seconds. They made it just to show they could and a few people expressed the wish to buy them. So they decided to set up a production line to make more of them and charge what they thought was a very high price. Then they actually figured out how much each one cost to make and found out they weren't charging nearly enough . To put in some context, the little stick on the steering wheel you use to switch the windscreen wipers on and off? Most cars, it's a bit of plastic that cost a few pence. On this thing, it's made of aircraft grade aluminium and magnesium and cost roughly £8000 to make. To quote wikipedia.. It is, as i said, mental. In almost every way.

The Veyron's a bit like the Mclaren F1. A lot of the cash will be made up over the lifetime of the car - I don't think many spanner men outside of Bugatti would think about servicing one, so you're almost certainly tied into feeding Bugatti cash any time something needs doing. It's also not the worlds fastest car.

It’s all gone a bit “bent as a pastry chef’s nine bob note” in the Rachel Riley thread now.

The price per vehicle was based on the cost of developing the Veyron divided by the limited number of cars that was to be produced. Initially, I think the figure was around £5m. I think it is fair to say that the Veyron is now a production car and therefore the actual cost per vehicle for the entire project will be getting lower- perhaps your £4m is the current cost, I don't know. As the car was also produced as a test bed for new technologies, these prices will also eventually be covered by developments in Volkswagen's more affordable vehicles. The price that most amazes me is the cost of a single indicator stalk on the steering column. Made from some exotic alloy, they come in at £4,000 each!!

Not at all. If I was going to be jealous it would be of someone attractive that had good dress sense This is simply an alternative thread for those that don't want to talk about her.
