Robin Day, the designer, died on 9th November 2010. You know his work - you have very likely sat in examples of it.

So he was responsible those crappy uncomfortable chairs.

Call me ungrateful if you like, but I find no wish to laud the designer of the most uncomfortable chair I've ever used. Cheap to make it certainly was and indeed it was clever to make it stackable but it never struck me as being particularly 'fit for purpose'. I'd characterise it as a design success but a functional failure.
