There's a somewhat interesting website sprung up recently on the net; www.ratemyteachers.com. If you are a teacher, do you have any recourse for getting your name removed etc. from this website?

I haven't looked at the site, but I would think, if it comes under liable, then an e-mail or a solicitor's letter should do the trick.
I'd start with an e-mail pointing out that the information is incorrect and asking for removal, if that doesn't work, then you'd need to get a solicitor

This has been around for a few years, and teachers unions kicked up a fuss when it first appeared. The site is based in the USA, so it’s hard to apply UK laws to it.

That's actually quite an old site. Geekette brought my attention to it ages ago. She's on it. I'll ask her about possible removal if you like?

As bid_D pointed out your best bet is to pursue any comments as libellous - since it is for the person making the comments/allegations to prove that they are true (to much controversy - see McLibel case). If however, they're just posting a bad review without making any allegations then it might come under "fair comment".
I'm certainly not aware of any statutory basis for having anything removed. Though you're quite lucky in that the English Courts are famous throughout the world for being very cautious when it comes to libel and generally siding with the person pursuing the action.
