As I have to apply for my own job (restructure) I'm going through the job descriptions today (as I dont intend on applying for my old job!) and this little nugget came up in the person spec....

“Demonstrate ability to absorb a higher rate of Change with an improved, measurable rate of success in delivering installation, deployment and on going operations and optimisation of IT projects and IT services such as major systems upgrades.” [taken word for word including any (missing) punctuation and spelling mistakes]

Is that even English? Honestly, it might as well have been written in French.

I would have put it in the Random Sh.. Thread but thought it might be worth starting a new one if anyone else has got any examples.

First of all, I'm sorry to learn yet another person has to go through the crappy process of re-applying for their own job.

I would, given the chance, apply for someone else's job if I was in that situation again. Without getting too paranoid, events and timing prevented me from doing so, when I went through it just over a year ago.

I'm assuming that's what you meant, or are you bailing out?

That reads like - sign up for twice as much sh!t and responsibility for no more money.

I can sort of make sense of this bit:

But the bit before throws me...

I'm sure I used some odd arrangement of English sounding works in my dissertation, but I can't find a copy of it at the moment to look....

I worked for the Project Delivery team but was seconded to a newly formed Loxley Project team to assist with moving over to a XenApp environment and everything that entails. Now the restructure is here they're just feeding the Citrix skillset back into the old Server Technologies team which means if I'm to keep working on Citrix I have to take someones place on the Server team. If any of that makes sense!

And yeah its more work and less money. The Citrix skillsets they're looking at for the money they're paying is laughable e.g. they expect the Server Team Technicians to package apps (Altiris, Streaming Profiler, etc) for £22k!

That is laughable. We have work-experience 14yo guys for that, and they pay us provided we supply bacon

I've noticed a few job applications seem to have either a significant amount of SPaG errors, or they're written in a convoluted manner. It's like calling a binman "refuse and waste disposal technician".

I'd get used to it. At the end of the day, it's a buyers market. If that's what everyone's paying their Server Team Techs, then that's what the market rate is. Simple.
At work, my boss was given a choice - take redundancy or take on the operations of a whole other department (following someone else's redundancy). So that's the work of two people now for the one pay packet.
The economy simply isn't healthy enough for people to be commanding the wages of 1 or 2 years ago.

There was a job advertised in Notts (private sector) for an application packager £34k. Also chap left here to go contracting and is on £220 a day (fair enough you're self employed so have to take deductions from that) on a 6 month contract doing packaging and apps support.

The money for general server team techs seems about right at 22k but my gripe is they're now expecting those guys to take on what is a quite specialised task which has got nothing to do with their current job.

Single Status here was undertaken before this system was brought in and it appears (from what people here are saying) they're paying well below market value for the skills they're asking for.

Anyway back on topic this is what the Plain English guys said.....

Dear Philip
This is typical jargon and could be written in plain English to make life easier for everyone, particularly at what must be a stressful time for those involved.

If you are able to scan or point me to an original of the document, I will be happy to take this up with the relevant department.

At the very least I will make sure it is included with our nominations for the next Golden Bull annual awards.
