basically at work I was discussing money related things, he was on about how he has paid a bank or something a certain amount but coudn't pay the full amount so they are taking him to court all the way down in England, so he needs about £2000 to give to the bank or company by few weeks, if he pays up then there will be no court/headache/extra stress etc

I jokingly said that I could loan him the 2k with no interest, he said he would pay me with £70+ more more interest for me and all the time I thought he was joking when infact he was being serious  I said that I could give him this 2k and he said id get it back within 2-3 months, I can easily afford it but its a matter of trust etc, just a bit skeptical he vanishes off the radar, What would people here do in this situation? I feel kinda bad that he has to travel all the way down to england just for a court hearing when the cash he needs is just gathering dust in my bank, which would save the stress of it all

anyone any suggestions what to do?

ps I think I can trust him, I have his mobile and know where he works in both places etc, and I get on with him really well etc :(

just wary :( is that normal?

The very fact that he's willing to accept charity off someone 100% proves, without a shadow of a doubt, that you'd never see a penny of that money back. And what's more it isn't even remotely your problem.

I would agree. If he owes the bank money his best best is to opt for an IVA which can write off much of his debts. I am not sure of the limits but a negotiated deal is by far the best. If he already has this debt he could have a lot more that you do not know about, and be unable to repay you ever.

Well if you can afford to loose £2k then it might be worth doing however if it was me I would walk away.

And massive fun it is too. Bratty, I could count the amount of people I'd give two grand to on one finger and he isn't one of them. So for that reason, I'm out.

Avoid it bratty.

I'd never have mentioned it in the first place. If it was a close family member, I might consider it but it would really strain the relationship if there were payment problems.

I lent £450 to a mate years ago. I never did get it back.
