The last series they made (the one where they ended up on the set of Coronation Street) was terrible.

I quite enjoyed it. Plenty of references to Blade Runner and other sci-fi.

The new series looks much more promising. It's going back to the roots, with studio audience and potentially old-tech SFX.

Roll on 2012!

Blade Runner references are always good, in my book.

I felt it was poorly written fan fiction at best. References to Blade Runner do not redeem it.

The forum here seemed less keen on the previous Dave outing.

It's not BAD but it definitely isn't Red Dwarf.

And what's with Dave Lister trying to be deep and emotional?!?!

Parts two and three were like a condensed fan-fic of Blade Runner. Aside from that (and that wasn't even that great), there was nothing in it for me.
I laughed a couple of times, mostly at the Blade Runner gags, but that was it.
Like Paul, I think it was a bit of a wasted opportunity.

The overall tone of the conversation is that the Dave outing of Red Dwarf was a waste of an opportunity and it just wasn’t that good.

I still stand by my comments made there, Paul.
While I appreciated the Blade Runner references it was like a televised fan-fic.

At least they have taken on board what the fans have said regarding season 6, 7, 8 and whatever we are up to now.

Whether they act on what they have taken on board is another matter.

It could be good though, esp with the studio audience type thing. Makes it more like proper Red Dwarf.

Fingers crossed.

::EDIT:: I also stand by what I said on the PCPro forum.

+1
I hope it picks up where series 8 left off.

I’m not holding my breath. This could turn it into Last of the Summer Wine In Space.

Mine hasn't. I was hoping they'd let the old girl die gracefully, rather than attempt to milk every last drop and ruin the memories. The one off was little more than a cringe-fest, although I couldn't stomach watching the whole thing.

This, and then our kids can complain about us watching re-runs as much as we did when our parents watched Dad's Army et al. :)

Not that Dads Army is bad.

You mean you missed the stunning reveal at the end where Lister woke up and Rimmer was in his shower?
