I suspect that the recent appointment of Barney Harwood to the Blue Peter team is one of desperation as the BBC realise that the idiot he replaced in indicitive of the slow death of the programme. Blue Peter gets an occasion look in here as other half’s teaching duties means that she’s keen to see if they programme can provide back-up material or activities that can be brought into the classroom. It’s really shockingly poor of late. While the two presenters they have are good, and by “good” I mean in the “Village Venus” sense of the word - they were far superior to the idiot they have got rid of - they do seem to struggle at times. However, Harwood shows what a decade of presenting can do. He’s just got that kind of TV presence that shows he’s probably over qualified for the job (Blue Peter has a tradition of getting unknowns in as presenters - a strategy that has worked more times than not). I think he’s there to buck the system up and force the other two to up their game or get out. Personally, I think he’s wasted on kid’s TV - he should really be moving on to more grown up TV. |
