There is this odd, almost metallic, noise outside the house. I can hear it in the kitchen, but it is loudest out the front. I have no idea where it is coming from, and no idea what it is. http://audioboo.fm/boos/270659-really-o ... eting-wind I recorded it on my iPhone, and there is some wind buffeting going on - but what can it be? It's around 23:30 when I noticed it. |

Sounds like the cables inside a lamppost vibrating in the wind. Either that or a house alarm from very far away being carried in the wind. ![]() |

TBH I'm going with the alarm theory, it sounds very whiny to me. |

Do you have anarmy base/range a few miles away, or a major installation(power station/nuclear). Could be a warning siren/firw alarm |

No. Closest army base is Colchester. Closest nuclear station at Bradwell. |

Is there a railway line anywhere near? I have one about 2Km away, and when they work on the lines I get a similar noise. |

I am disappointed that you didn't chime in sooner. I am not disappointed by your answer, though. ![]() |

Paul, perhaps it's Bratty and his über loud air-raid siren? Mark |

I have an image of him running around the fields betwixt here and Harlow, mouth wide open emitting a pitiful wail. It is a disturbing, and slightly terrifying image. |
