I wonder if it’s anything to do with the Ubuntu publicity stunt today? Apparently, everything they do today will be done on Ubuntu. May your god have mercy on their souls.

It can only be a stunt. How can you prove anything in a day? It won't even be 24 hours, will it?

Now, switch to using Ubuntu for a month and I'd think they have something worthwhile to tell me. In a month they can iron out the problems with 3G dongles not connecting on the train, and how to communicate with far-flung contributors, and settle down to actually doing the job. Only then can they tell me something useful.

Agreed. Only long term tests will expose many of the tiny flaws that might seriously affect users.

9AM – Barry Collins writes: So #ubuntupro day has got off to a bad start for me. I’ve grown used to logging in with my mobile broadband dongle and checking my email and the day’s news on the train to work. But I can’t get my dongle (a ZTE K3570-Z running on Vodafone) to work in Ubuntu 10.10. The software that comes on the stick doesn’t work, and while the Ubuntu Mobile Broadband wizard promisingly detects my modem and even allows me to pick my network and tariff (i.e. contract, prepay etc), I can’t make a connection. Anyone got any advice before I start trawling forums?

And as if by magic the PC Pro is now working again... good lick looking for help over there though ;)

Should someone advise him to try asking us for help?

The question should be why have you not already done this? :p

The advice would probably be 'go back to using windows you berk'.

Not only that, but they have got a Canonical engineer in to help them. I’ve not been able to find out how much an engineer on site costs from the Canonical web site. I guess it’s a lot. Is Ubuntu truly free? Not if you want it running smoothly, it seems.
