Boah! Just booked my trip to the UK... Only the "cheap" airlines fly from here, and they only fly to Stanstead, totally useless, but I don't get much choice. But the price got me. Lufthansa cost €260 to Heathrow, but takes around 6 hours, because I have to first fly south to Frankfurt, then change and then fly back OVER my airport to get to Heathrow. Air Berlin and Ryan Air were both around €300 for a direct flight to Stanstead. How is that cheap? A direct flight from Munich to Heathrow cost me around €250 with Lufthansa, last time I flew....

I'll assume that you'd checked the InterWeb for flight only deals before you paid?

Yep, I tried about 6 different portals, they were even more expensive. In the end, I went direct with Air Berlin...

€1,500 return... Edit: The cheapest flight was €186, but included a 12 - 18 hour stop-over in Zurich!

not worth it when germany is so beautifal and this UK you speak of (England no doubt) is grey and miserable (the buildings) so why waste money flying to "UK"?

Where would you prefer to fly from and to? What dates are you looking at?

The "cheap" airlines only have a limited number of the cheap seats and they're sold on a first come first serve basis. As the plane fills, the price of seats goes up exponentially. That's why you have to book a long time in advance to get the cheap fares.

Ok, what's "true" is that a mate of ours is having a hard time of things at the moment, and he is trying to get to the UK quickly and inexpensively. Can we cut the wierdness and jokes and either try and help the guy or not say anything? Thanks. Let's go back a few posts...
