Been talked into wall papering one of the walls in our bedroom when I start decorating this weekend, I haven’t wall papered for about 20 years and can’t really remember much about it tbh. So if anybody can give me some tips that would be great. I would image I need to find a straight line with the first strip going in the center of the wall then working out on both sides......???? That would be my logical approach, do I form a crease with a brush at the ceiling then pull back the paper and cut then lay back and finish off? |

I loathe hanging wall paper with a passion. http://www.helpwithdiy.com/decorating/hanging_wallpaper.html http://interiordec.about.com/od/wallpaperhanging/ht/hangwallpaperF.htm I don't know how complicated the shape of your room is, but remember that with corners, they're rarely dead straight. Be prepared to have some alignment issues arise - if you're like me, you'll spend hours lining it up, moving it, getting it straight, only to realise that as the wall/corner isn't dead straight your efforts are for nothing. Ta-da. One crooked piece of paper. |

Luckily I only need to do one wall but as it's a 3 storey house and our bedroom is in part of the loft area the wall shape is a bit tricky due to the ceiling shape. Cheers for the links PF |

Papering walls is brilliant, precisely for the reasons that Alex states above. It's a challenge that the house makers have thrown do to you. It's almost like the house defies you to have straight hanging wallpaper. Hints/tips … get a plumbers line, always cut the paper too long, use appropriate lining paper, don't use lumpy paste, use a proper pasting table - or appropriate pasting surface, remove all fittings from the walls, enjoy the process. Have fun. Mark |

My hint: Break out the magnolia and paint the wall Wallpaper is an arse to put up, an arse to take down, makes painting an arse, costs a bloody fortune to do properly, looks almost universally bloody awful and ruins a perfectly good wall. ![]() Just my opinion mind ![]() |

This is his home we're talking about! Not student digs being rented out by a slumlord. ![]() |

Magnolia paint is admitting you've given up and just don't care about life. |

I think it's the sensible option more than anything, and at least you'd be willing to do it yourself in that case ![]() |

Well it is the least offensive option. Also a lot easier to touch up if accidents happen. |

Magnolia paint is refusing to spend hours looking at colour charts when you just don't care what colour the wall is and you can get magnolia in bulk for peanuts. ![]() |
