after the 'so called' sentence

i would do some thing very very criminal
then hand myself in to the police and be sentenced to a long term in prison
(which i, myself, would regard as another 'tour of duty')

knowing that what i had done (personally) was some type of justice

No doubt the same as you. I would like to think I wouldn't but when the Justice system fails what else is left?


'Swift justice'. That just means cost cutting and rushing cases through. Speed should have no relevance, it's like a 'swift meal' - sure a McDonalds will fill you, and you will get it quickly and cheaply, but it's in no way the same thing as having a three course meal at a top end restaurant.

I hope the media attention on the lack of justice will help the appeal.

Not sure what I would do but it would require I spent a considerable amount of time in prison afterwards, that's for sure.

Reading the article, one thing does strike me.
The family of the victim weren't told that there was a 28 time limit in which to lodge an appeal against the frankly rubbish decision of the court.
So, assuming they were told the decision within a day of it being made they decided to sit about of a month without lodging an appeal? Surely the appeal should have been made within about 2 minutes of the judgement being handed down.

Things that come to mind include chopping his hands off, and tit-for-tat, a brick in his face. Maybe a concrete breeze block or something.

Perhaps break every bone in his body. Set him on fire? Not enough to kill him though.

And stop his benefits.

I'd have lodged the appeal, and I'd make sure everyone in the neighbourhood understood the risk he posed and kept an eye on him. I might even punch him in the nose. I'd possibly even get round to asking him if he felt bad about what he'd done, and maybe try to understand what could drive a 14 year old to do such a terrible thing. I'm one of those people that sometimes considers the alternatives to old testament vengeance; one of those things is to understand how tragedies occur and work to prevent their recurrence.

I would also be impressed by the young woman's resolve to get on with her life without bitterness, and consider not inflicting further tragedy on her by having one of her parents consigned to prison for a lengthy stretch.

My sister was about 15 when someone broke a bottle in her face.
What did we do?
Called the Police and thanked our lucky stars that the glass hit her in the face and not her throat.

Bad things happen all the time. IIRC, the thug that bottled my sister didn't even get a £200 fine. But then we didn't take the story to the papers because we're not into cynically manipulating our misfortunes for financial gain.

I don't want to imagine anything horrible happening to my family, and I especially don't want to read anything that's printed in the Daily Mail as I consider it's aimed at people very, very far below my intelligence level.
