http://theenvelope.latimes.com/news/la- ... ory?page=1 Cool article. I can totally understand why the studios don't want to take risks, but it's the nature of the business they're in, and they let it come to this... Something really has to be done about the writing on the average Hollywood film IMO, it's like listening to people from another planet talking sometimes ![]() |

I guess the only thing you can do is not go and see the mass-market recycled films and go and see something less mainstream. Or don't bother at all. Unless there's a huge change in cinema-going there's just going to be more and more poorly-written, effects-driven movies. Fine once in a while...I like a blockbuster pic as much as anyone...but let's have a few more films sourced from something other than a comic or an old TV show. Inception showed you don't always have to talk to an audience as if they were 8 year olds and could still be a mass market success. There are, for example, plenty of original sci-fi stories out there. The annual Best New SF collection contains many tales which would make original and interesting films, but why bother if you can get the punters in with Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Transformers 3 or Thor? |

A big problem is the focus groups and aiming for 'demographics' - I suspect many brilliant films have been left unrecognisable as a result of the sort of people that freak out if they leave their mobile at home... |

'Old on! I freak out if I leave my phone at home and the last film I paid money to see was '22 Bullets'. |

Don't you use the phone for work though? I'm assuming you're a bit more intelligent than the people who light up a darkened cinema screening with their phone too ![]() |
