I don't really know where to start with this. I am writing it down to try to put my thoughts in order Late Tuesday night my wife's younger brother passed away in hospital. He was only 24. He caught pneumonia at the beginning of July and was admitted to hospital then. A day later he went into ICU. Thankfully he pulled through that and a week and a half ago he was sent to the ward as he was recovering. When I went to see him on Tuesday there was talk of him being transferred to Papworth Hospital in Cambridge as that is a specialist lung and breathing place. Sadly he started deteriorating and slowly his body shut down and he eventually stopped breathing. He suffered from a very rare condition called Ataxia-Telangiectasia which left him severly disabled, needing 24 hour care and left his immune system wrecked so he couldn't fight infections. This is what ultimately is the cause. Despite all of this he was an absoulte joy to be around and he loved being around people. We will miss him so much. http://www.atsociety.org.uk/ for more info on his condition. Please have a read. Thank you for reading.

Sorry to hear that So young aswell. It seems, at least, that you have very good memories of him to keep around.

I apologise profusely if this comes across as crass but for an AT sufferer to get to 24 is, to my limited understanding, actually pretty good going.
However, although you perhaps got more years with him than some other sufferers' families, I offer my condolences that you didn't get a whole lot more.

It's terrible to lose someone close, but losing someone so young must be especially difficult to come to terms with.
My condolences to you and your family.

That's very sad, sorry to hear of your family's terrible loss. It sounds like you all made the most of your time with him, it's such a shame that his life was so short. My condolences to you and your family.
