My brother is now fully macced up. iPhone, iPad and Mac mini bought and installed and no sight of Windows
This means as I told him, no more support from me!!!
A hefty weight has now left my shoulders , no more dealing with him [LIFTED] things up and expecting me to sort it out.

You missed a trick. You could have said you'd be happy to support him and thereby gained brownie points, safe in the knowledge that as Macs never go wrong, you'd have no troubles either way...

He’ll still call you. You’ve done the job in the past, and he’ll see you as a prop in the future too.

That's exactly what I do.

My neighbour has just bought herself a new Windows laptop, even though we lent her a spare Mac for the past couple of years.

Now, if she rings, we say we don't "do" Windows. 8-) (Even though we do, we don't want the hassle.)

When I tell people I use Linux, they ask "what version of Windows is that?" :?

I recall putting Linux on an old PC for the local Scout group. Previously the "computer guy" had put Windows XP on an old Pentium II with 64MB RAM and wondered why it ran slowly...I was asked to take a look at it and "do whatever I felt was best". I put Linux on it (can't remember the distro, but it was fairly nice to use). The "computer guy" came up to me when I was putting it back in the Scout hut and asked "Is that the new version of Windows? It looks very nice, and it's very speedy!".

Little did he know the next version of Windows would be known for how slow and bloated it was

I've crashed every mac I've ever used. I've even somehow managed to bugger up my ipod nano.

Hence I'm not convinced macs are as stable as people say they are.

A valid point. It must, however, be set against the five Macs I have in this house (and four Windows PCs) that have never had an issue.

You don't wear nylon underpants, do you?

I wasn't being entirely serious, as it appears Bobdobbs appreciated...

Having said that I've been doing support/techy roles in one form or another for.. somewhere around 25 years now and I absolutely swear there are certain people who can crash anything. It doesn't matter what the hardware is, it doesn't what the OS is, you give a computer to some people and it just. stops. working. I've seen it. I've seen otherwise perfectly adequate, intelligent people sit in front of a computer that was previously working fine and within 5 minutes it's started to go haywire. Some people are just gifted that way and I don't think there's a computer yet built on earth that can withstand them. I just hope to God they never let one of them go into space....
