Google has introduced a new tool allowing users to block unwanted web domains from their search results. So, if you can't stand a site that dominates the first Google page for your tech queries, you can tell Google not to feature that site in your search results any longer. Once you've clicked that link on the search page, you'll need to come back to the results page and chose whether you want to block it from future searches. "We're adding this feature because we believe giving you control over the results you find will provide an even more personalised and enjoyable experience on Google," said company engineers in a blog post today. Personalised searches Once you've blocked a site you'll then be notified by your Google account and asked to confirm it. You'll also be able to manage the websites you've blocked in your Google account settings. Google is also considering taking the amount of times a site has been disqualified from users' search results into account when deciding on how websites rank within its algorithms. You'd have to not remotely give a crap about your personal data to sign up for a Google account. So they can offer whatever they want, but it's not relevant to me. |

I had to look up portmanteau, and I'm still unsure of your second meaning  I meant Google-life, in comparison to an Apple iLife. All my data are belong to Google. In Google I do trust. They will never do evil; for hallowed be their name. I could live without them, but I remember what it was like. I really do not want to go back to the inferior providers I used before. |

I don't care about Google knowing my details, they cold have sensors in my walls for all I care, as long as they don't stop me from doing what I want. it's not infringing on my liberties, it's just very boring data for them to sell. |

Altavista was pretty good in 1998! Wolfy's spot on about my second definition. Leeds, fair play to you, but however boring it is, I don't want anybody knowing what I search for and when and from what IP, thank you very much. Also, my cookie whitelist is extremely short. X404 is in good company! |

I remember altavista. It was my fave choice of search engine above the likes of lycos and yahoo. I then switched to ask as it showed results from multiple search engines. Then google showed up. I was using it well before it was famous. Altavista also reminded me of an unsavoury site call astalavista.

I had a GMail account when they were invite only. However, I’d probably need one anyway given that a company I work for started using their Docs etc. for data sharing a year-18 months ago. They were even using Buzz., God knows why - I could never follow what was going on there. They stopped now - and are using Drop Box to throw files around instead. |

I used to use Alta Vista all the time at school. Also Lycos and my webmail was through Excite. |
