Hi. My camera back pack is getting heavier as I buy more bits and pieces and was recently agony carting it around London for nearly three days. I want to attach a belt, like this one- http://www.ronniesunshines.com/security ... p-506.html which is sturdy enough to transfer weight to my hips, but also narrow enough to accommodate a pouch (or two) I can mail order one, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a high-street (or business park) shop where I can get one of these? I have already tried Millets- no joy. Thanks. |

There's purpose made set ups - have a look at this. Or give some thought to what you actually need - I'm constantly over packing my gear. |

I don't want the entire thing!!! My work belt looks something like that though.
I've been throwing money at this activity for ages and everywhere I go I carry all of my lenses as I never know when I'm going to have a chance to use one. I know it's a lot of kit, and I know that if I was committed to one kind of photography, I could leave stuff behind, but I'm building quite a collection of kit now and don't want to miss the perfect picture  because I haven't got something with me.I will need to upgrade my pack (Lowepro Fastpack 200) sometime, but I can add the belt for around £10, plus the time it takes to fix it to the pack somehow (velcro??) Packs with added hip belts probably are too wide to accommodate a pouch on the belt if they are anything like the rucksacks I have. |

As Alex says, there are purpose made accessory belts available. Here's another one that has a variety of pouches available for it.  There's also harnesses for the belts that help take the strain off your hips and spread the load, if that's what you're after. Mark. |

Boys sadly got a point though! I'd get a tactical belt from 5.11 sturdy enough to take a heavy sidearm and will consequently accommodate any camera gear with ease. Build quality is legendary and they're used by law enforcement and military everywhere. Oh, and they hold your trousers up too. |

Still, if I was in need of using one, I would. You can't be scared of looking like a suicide bomber while you go about your daily business, otherwise they've won (which I'd say they already have, but that's not for this thread). Mark |

B&Q offer a couple of work belts, but I am not sure how sturdy they are- they look the job and one is only £4. The belt I have in work is very sturdy, but wouldn't roll up and fit in a pocket, for example. I wouldn't mind seeing what's available in the shops to assess them. So, it's off to B&Q. I wouldn't trust a belt that uses a quick disconnect fastener with several hundred pounds (or more) worth of technology. |

Neither would I, but it's not going to be used on it's own. In the worst case scenario, it comes loose and I have to do it up again. As well as using belt pouches to carry stuff, I do like to use one while I'm swapping lenses; as we (as the human race) haven't seen fit to evolve three hands yet. |

B&Q show several on their site and have NONE in store. So, it's off to a local builder's merchant and another tool shop if I have to. I'll order one on-line in the coming week if I can't find one locally. |

I got a DeWalt tool belt in the end. Unlike the belts we have in work, it fits a wide range of sizes and so has quite a long section of thinner webbing, but the bulk of it is good a solid and should transfer weight to my hips well, without folding. All I've got to do now, is plan the manner in which I am going to fix it to my pack- something like a couple of belt loops made of webbing should cover it. |
