Post subject: | Chrome update takes out Flash |
The latest version of Chrome appears to contain a bug that takes out Adobe Flash. Google updated its browser to version 10 last week. It's the first stable edition of the browser to sandbox Flash. Now, some users are reporting problems using Flash-based sites. When Chrome has multiple instances of Flash running, the plugin crashes, with a message saying: "The following plugin has crashed: Shockwave Flash." The browser itself remains running. The flaw comes at an awkward time for Google, as rival browsers Internet Explorer and Firefox release their latest versions. Some forum posters suggested they were already considering switching to Mozilla's browser. "I'm going to give it one more day before I uninstall Chrome and start using Firefox again," said one. "Any web page with Flash just doesn't work anymore." The flaw isn't helping Google's reputation with businesses, either - especially after Gmail was knocked offline last month. "We have had to instruct all users to discontinue using Google Chrome, and use an alternate browser in order to use Google Mail," said one business user on the Chromium forums. "Executive management is concerned that with two email outages in the past two weeks, and now a browser failure that took down the whole company, they're asking whether we should back out of Google Apps as a solution for messaging and collaboration." Google has yet to get back to us with comment, but Chromium developers have acknowledged the issue on support forums. "We're investigating this right now and it's unfortunately not that simple," said one Chromium developer. "Thanks for your patience as we try to get to the bottom of it." http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/365983/chro ... -out-flash 'He got so bloated he just... died.' ![]() |
