just a fast question regarding coffee  woke up today with a headache, also feeling very sluggish and cant explain... had one yesterday but I dont think I had any coffee yesterday either. usually ill always have at least one or 2 coffees, mostly in cafes. Dont think im addictive but I semi "crave" it sometimes and when I just made a coffee just now my headache has "magically" vanished, so now im thinking if my body is dependant now on coffee? :( which would suck so I got to keep drinking this stuff or get ill :x even if I dont feel like one im somehow "spellbound" by it

anyone else relate to this?

Now to answer the question …
I quite often wake up with a headache, normally anything to drink or eat will clear it for me.
I've always put it down to mild dehydration whilst sleeping. Whether or not this is actually a correct self-diagnosis I don't know.

Caffeine is addictive, and the main withdrawal symptom is headache. I'm sure one of the medical people can explain it better, but apparently a lot of pain killers have caffeine in because it's such a common cause of headaches!

Hmm, I was under the impression with painkillers that the caffeine increases the absorbtion rate of the painkilling ingredient.

I could be wrong however.

Like JJ says, caffeine is addictive. It's why Red Bull is illegal in some countries, like France, Denmark and Norway, because it is packed with the stuff.

No, it's no more packed with caffeine than an average cup of coffee, about 80mg/250ml. In fact, a good filter coffee or an espresso, which are still perfectly legal in France, Denmark and Norway as far as I'm aware, can have about 115mg/250ml.

Caffeine is harmless, i think red bull got banned because of red tape around its taurine content, rather than the caffeine. Also if you're a regularly user of caffeine you become tolerant of it, and it loses its diuretic effect, so drinking a cup of coffee will hydrate your body, it was probably dehydration that was causing the headache, or the warm drink made you relax and less tense. I drink about 6 times as much caffeine as you daily and I have no symptoms when I stop.

Ah, I see. Only drank the stuff maybe once or twice. Tasted like crap to me so I'd rather have my tea and coffee.

I thought this too, as the taurine/extra stuff makes the caffeine absorb quicker into the system than regular coffee
