As mentioned previously, I've started watching the 2003 series on youtube. Used to be a fan when it was on TV but then they stopped airing it on CITV.

Anyway, I've read more into the mythology/backstories, what with a demon shredder, ch'rell/utroms etc.

But now I'm wondering whether I should dig deeper.

Do I buy the live action dvds from the 90s? I barely remember this as a kid, except April was curly-haired and didn't look like her 80s cartoon counterpart.
Do I buy the 80s cartoon boxset? I used to love it as a kid, but when it was aired on BBC2 a few years back, I didn't like the zaniness of it all. One of the main reasons I liked the 2003 series was the more serious storyline.

Any other TMNT recommendations?

What are you talking about?

Edit: Ah, the shellbacks.

Buy the original Eastman & Laird comics.
Read.
Marvel at the artwork and dark content.
Enjoy.

Buy them in the GN format ;) , I think there's the B&W reprints (as they were originally IIRC) and then colour ones. I wish I'd kept those now, I kinda got annoyed when they started going to other worlds etc...

I probably wouldn't watch the original cartoon series again except for appearances of the more curious characters I had as figures towards the end of it's life - Mondo Gecko, Manta Ray, the frogs etc. AVOID the live action version

There's a film (think it's on YT) where the 80s and 00s Turtles meet after some inter-dimensional mix-up or something. Oh, and the CGI film, think it's just called TMNT. Haven't seen all of it...

Will have a look. I'm not a fan of "other worlds" type stuff.

Anything bad about the live action movies 1,2 and 3?

Apparently, it's called Turtles Forever.

Yeah I saw that and hated it, purely because of the CGI. Animation would have been far superior.

I remember the first two being watchable, they should still hold kitsch value today if nothing else - put it this way, I'm happy just to see a bunch of Foot Clan members running about, or Shredder messing around with Mutagen etc :)

The third film was a time-travelling job I can't remember much about, so... :(

Doesn't seem to work anymore unless someone else is 'mirroring' it somewhere I haven't found... Thought these links were interesting though ;) :
