How much time off work have you guys had due to being unwell? Today is my first day off in over three years. Before that, I had caught norovirus from the ward, precipitated over the weekend and couldn't go back because of the 48 hour period. |

For as long as I remember I haven't had a day off sick. Until last year when I arranged with my boss in advance to have a day off for several doctor's appointments and he said that it was fine and then afterwards said I had to fill a form in as a sick day. I was very annoyed and should have said something but I didn't. |

I've had two days off because of swine flu in the past four years, though I was working for about only 2 of those years. ![]() ![]() |

Actually, what his boss did is correct and I think may even be required by law. If you're off work sick for less than 7 days, you're required to fill in a 'return to work declaration'. The company are legally required to monitor and record their staff's sickness absences because if they have a lot of absence or peculiar pattern of absence it suggest a a workplace-related problem may need fixing. Essentially, it's for his own good that these kinds of things get recorded. In Oli's case I suppose he could just have filled the form in beforehand or the boss could have done the paperwork and just asked him to sign it but it's not just his boss being arsey. Jon |

I've been off for a few days this year, also with the norovirus. Other than that, I don't have much time off work, barring holidays. I'm not a fan of duvet days, but then I like the people I work with... |

In 2004 I had 5 days off work because a muscle injury in my back. I could perhaps have returned to work a little earlier, but I wanted to make sure it had fully recovered before I emigrated a few weeks later. Since then I haven't had any sick days that I can remember. I've had illnesses and injuries but have always been able to work, albeit sometimes in a different role than normal. Fortunately I'm very rarely ill, and if I am why would I want to mope around at home. |

When I was working I had injuries that kept me off work. Never had a genuine sickie though did pull off a sickie by claiming to have glaucoma, I was 18 at the time, but got away with it because no one knew about it. I later found out that it was a geriatric condition. ![]() |

Off sick today... I had just over 3 months off due to mono in 2001 / 2002. That screwed my life up pretty well, but I managed to get a new start out of it in Germany. I had 6 weeks off in the summer, due to an operation on my heel - I couldn't put weight on it for nearly 2 weeks, then physio getting it back into shape. 6 months later and the pains are pretty much gone, but if I do too much, I start to feel it again. |

Had a bit of time off the other year due to meccano headgear interfering with life. Two weeks short of 6 months. I've had regular (two week) absences every 3 months since as well as an increase in the 28 day allowance for self-signing cos I'm just not keeping very well ![]() 23 working days to go minus any holiday I fancy....... I had a bad dose of flu which laid me up for about 5 days over Christmas with a temperature of 104F - or "too hi" as my digital thermometer said when it went off the scale lol. Then when I went back to work they sent me home again because I still looked ill, and I'd developed a sinus infection. It took about 3 weeks before I felt really better, over a month before I was back to normal. I can't accurately remember the time before, but I know I've had a few days off over the last decade for stomach troubles and I'm pretty sure I was off about two days last year with a fever of some kind. I guess the average is to be off for about 2 days once every year or so, although I feel like taking a "duvet day" pretty much every week ![]() ![]() |
