I nearly bought an iPad but in a moment of madness bought an MB Air instead.
I was wondering though how many of the guys here have treated themselves to a tablet of some sort?
Or if not, why not?

I like my keyboards and see little point in those hybrid things either (the exception being a lack of choice that led to my phone purchase).

I’ve got an iPad, which I do like a lot. It’s far less hassle for casual stuff than a laptop is. I do find I think better when I have a proper keyboard to type on though.

Thinking about an iPad2, whenever that may be.

nope. everything i do on a computer (gaming, coding, writing huge and overly-detailed posts on forums) requires a keyboard and mouse. and last i checked, tablets didnt overclock too well

Tried the Apple tablet and some others - didn't like any of them.
Give me proper buttons any day.

Given I have an iPhone4, a tablet really struggles to justify itself to me tbh. There's not that much middle ground between the phone and the computer for it to try and slot into.

Same here. There is a Final Draft iOS app coming soon and that will make it much more practical for me. The 3G is pointless for me, and as I have discovered a Mifi could fill the connectivity issues and be far more useful because I could use it for a laptop as well. I have a few specific ways that I plan to use it so it fits in well. It will be a perfect iPlayer screen for when I want that option. I doubt that I will want music on but I could control my iTunes with it as well. The FaceTime app could be handy as well.

iPad 2 may happen here too. Other Half seems quite keen on the current iPad, and we usually play “hand me down” with computer kit.

I was happy to admire the iPad from afar.
Seeing some tablets up close has spoilt the myth a little for me. I imagined the experience would be more satisfying that it turned out to be.
I've played with a few tablets now and I will say that I think the iPad is the best of the bunch, but jonlumb hit the nail on the head - there isn't enough room between a Laptop and an iPhone to justify a tablet. Maybe it's a nice to have item, but I don't have that kind of money to blow on a whim.

I'd like one. I do a bit of web dev, and having one to test things on would be nice. Best Beloved may well be able to use it to control some of his gear, too. A more comfortable way to read hundreds of e-magazines and books I seem to be acquiring, and also a neat way to show my photos to prospective clients. Whichever, it would have to be the cheapest one going. And it's all a bit moot right now, as there's no spare money for toys. We certainly won't need a 3G enabled one, which would be throwing good money away as far as I can see.

And the necessity to have an extra contract as well further ruins the economics of getting one.

I dunno about me buying a tablet computer, but my computer seems to think I need to buy tablets - if the emails I keep getting are anything to go by.

Anything to do with keyboard dysfunction?
