Hardly believable, but BBC News is reporting that Dr Who companion Elisabeth Sladen (who played Sarah Jane Smith) has died. :(

It looked like a Twitter rumour to start off, but I’ve just seen it at the top of the hour on the news channel. Cancer problems, apparently.

BBC News page: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-13137674

Not much there, but hardly surprising. She may not have been on a “watch list”.

Blimey. Not only is that incredibly sad, it makes me feel incredibly old suddenly.

Bits of my childhood are starting to become just memories and recordings.

A friend of mine got me a signed CD from her one year for my birthday. I always liked Sarah Jane as an assistant/companion and I was really pleased to see that they had included her in the new Doctor Who stories. I enjoyed what I saw of the Sarah Jane Adventures too - it was good to see her get her own series - good on RTD for putting that together.

It seemed like a cruel rumour to start with - lots of Tweets, but no confirmation. The Wikipedia article had been rolled back to an earlier version too.

But, sadly, it's all too true.

That's very sad news indeed. Far to young.

This is sad news.

I remember her alongside Pertwee and Baker - thought she was great.

A very sad day for different generations, and for different reasons. I must watch a few of my old series DVD's, (been collecting the Doctor Who DVD/Magazine thingy).

:(

To be honest, I've been expecting Tom Baker to check out before Lis.
