Isn't it odd that the referendum for an alternative vote reform to the electoral process will be based on a first past the post system? I'll probably vote yes. Hopefully it will improve turnout amongst the voters and get MPs to be a little more industrious and accountable. There appears to be a lot of slurring in the media atm. ![]() |

... There are only 2 choices. AV with 2 choices is also first past the post, in effect. I voted yes. I fancy a change to the reliance on swing voters, even if I didn't I'd probably vote yes because the BNP and Tories want a no vote. |

I didn't realise the BNP wanted a no vote. Odd when you think others are saying a yes vote would give more power to the BNP. Well not odd really, just political bs as usual. |

The BNP is being used as the Bogey Man to scare the Yes voters. |

If the lessons of history are anything to go by that would be prosperity, full employment, good educations systems and a political system people feels invested in. To put it bluntly, you (and we) are buggered. The things we are going to get - mass unemployment, poverty, inequality, population disenfranchisment etc etc are exactly the kind of conditions that cause the support for extreme political groups to skyrocket. Changing the way the votes are counted is fiddling on the deck of that particular Titanic. Jon |

By my understanding of the statistics, AV is less likely to give small minority parties a seat. In fact, I'm really not sure it'll make a great deal of difference. I voted Yes primarily to show my dissatisfaction at the current system. There wasn't a PR option, and frankly AV won't make much difference for the parties I support. |

Voting yes. The impression I'm getting from Parliament is that, by and large, the only thing most MPs are concerned about is the affect this'll have on their jobs. |

Yes, the Tories want to deny the BNP access to the democratic process, how very undemocratic. FFS, let them be - give the BNP enough rope, and they'll hang themselves. They are little more than a protest vote for people who don't know any better. I'm voting yes. |

The Tories don't want it because they are nobody's second choice, even BNP voters (the first team to get knocked out in most seats) are as likely to have Labour for their second choice as them. But they know a lot of Labour, Liberal and SNP voters will go for anyone at all instead of them. The spectre of the BNP is being waved around as a proxy to cover the real threat, which is that under AV, Labour can still win single party control when they have a populist figure like Blair at the helm, but the Tories probably can't. I'm voting yes, although I'm not positive I like the outcome for my own party of choice (Liberals), where they become professional junior coalition partners, trying to make either Labour or the Tories less annoying from one parliament to the next. |

I'm not only voting Yes - I'm also campaigning. Which is why I've not been around much and also why my feet hurt |
