Well it's that time of year again. So how do you do yours? |

I'll cook with charcoal, briquettes and gas. As long as it burns it's good enough for me, but forced to make a choice I would probably go with charcoal. |

Charcoal. Either. But I voted lumpwood. |

I use wood. It grows on my trees, so it's free. |

I prefer wood, though I usually end up using charcoal or gas when I visit either mine or Faye's parents |

Wood or lumpwood charcoal. I haven't seen anywhere around here selling briquettes... We have grilled 4 times so far this year. |

Lumpwood, from sustainable sources. I feel it doesn’t taint the meat as much as briquettes. We also have a gas grill for weekday evenings. I’d love a wood burner though — maybe at our new house *fingers crossed* http://www.flickr.com/photos/simon_augh ... /barbecue/ |

Lumpwood Have used gas in the past but it is not as good as charcoal IMHO unless spit roasting a whole pig and then use gas (well it takes 6-7 hrs or so to cook) Done 2 BBQ's this year so far and if the rain holds off doing one tomorrow as my part for the old street party |

Assuming I had a barbecue then it's charcoal and lumpwood for preference. Would also use wood if I had a decent stash of it or easy access to some woodland (it's what we always did when I was a kid). I really don't see you can call it a barbecue if you use gas. You're just grilling stuff outside. To me a proper barbecue has to involve burning wood of some sort. |

With some of the Gas BBQ’s which have lava rocks then you can still get something like the flavour as the fat drips off and burns on the rocks so giving you some of the taste. Also with these you can add wood shavings (apple wood / hickory) or some herbs to help get a more authentic flavour |

I know, but I don't think you should have to add extra stuff to get the authentic flavour. |

Depends who I am cooking for. Lumpwood light easily and burns fast. Great for getting a quick meal for a few Brickettes light slowly and burn slowly too. Great for bigger gathering where the cooking is going to be going on for longer. I do more smaller functions so voted lumpwood. ![]() |
