Welcome to BBC1... Let us pray
The BBC is now officially a religion, according to an industrial tribunal. Devan Maistry has been told his belief in public service broadcasting is just as valid as any other faith.
Why doesn’t this surprise me? Climate change and animal rights have already been accorded religious status. How long before someone opposes NHS spending cuts on the grounds that the health service, too, is a religion?
Mr Maistry, who worked for the BBC Asian Service, now plans to sue the corporation for unfair dismissal on the grounds of religious discrimination.
But no one seems to be quite sure why. Never mind, I’m sure he’ll win. These nutters normally walk away with a handsome pay-off.
I’m not sure how you practise BBC worship. Does Mr Pastry have a special altar with a statue of Alan Yentob on it? Does he offer thanks for Huw Edwards before he goes to bed each night? Perhaps he thrashes himself with a copy of the Radio Times to cleanse himself of impure lusting after Channel Five.

Oh deary me

In news next week, BNP told their faith in being racist [LIFTED] is just as valid as any other faith.

Im not going to dismiss the article purely based on the publication it come from. If you do that then you have to dismiss all articles as they all have inherent bias in them. but the article does raise a serious point. If someone holds a philosophical viewpoint does it come under the protection of religious discrimination and how far does this protection go.

And besides, I don't see why believing in the BBC is any less valid than believing in other man-made religions, such as Christianity, Judaism and Islam. ;)

If it was Littlejohn (and I'm afraid I have institutional bias against anything written by him for the Daily Fail), then it will not be worth the ink it was printed with.

As to the serious point, I shall have to think about it.

Religion is bunk.

And there isn't???

I rate the media slightly above politicians but that's like saying I'd prefer a broken arm to a broken leg

Ah, now you may think I think religion is bunk. I know it to be the case. Others have other opinions, and I'm happy for those to be aired.

Of course there is. Its just understanding the viewpoint from which the article is written and knowing they may be bias in it and coming to a rational viewpoint and understanding that the whole picture may be being obscured, either unknowingly or knowingly.
I read the Guardian and the Daily Mail (sometimes the Mirror  but that's when my wife gets the papers!). Papers that can be described as polar opposites to each other. Why? Because I like reading two contradictory versions of the same story  and its good to have any "beliefs" challenged now and again. A bit like here

At least yuou did not defame the one true religion Jedi. ;)

I think that this case is not really about the BBC, There is a cap on unfair dismissal payouts but not on discrimination payouts. As the BBC are looking at closing the Asian network, I would rather see it privatised either through a management buyout or outright sale. That way he could still work within the new Asian network or what ever it will be called.
