 | | | | Quote: We've made the decision to close the MacUser forum with effect from the end of May. We hope everyone will continue to contribute and debate as always, both on- and off-topic - but in 2011 we think the best venues for this are Twitter and Facebook.
We know many of you will be sad to see the forum go. So are we, but we really do hope you'll follow us into the world of social media, where all your comments, suggestions, diatribes and banter will be accessible to a wider audience.
Meanwhile, we've finally made progress on reinstating the reviews archive, and this will be back in place by the summer. Thanks for your patience - we know it seems crazy that such an important element of the site could fall by the wayside, but these things aren't always as easy as they look.
As always, our first priority is the magazine itself. You'll already have noticed some changes since the beginning of 2011, and there are more to come. Remember, you can find us in good newsagents, subscribe to the print edition, read on your Mac or iPad via Zinio, or find our PixelMags edition in the iOS App Store.
See you on the other side!
Very best wishes

Macuser has been on a steady decline since the late 90s.

Yes, light a fire on the shore to guide them in. The more, the merrier.

To be honest, most of those who wanted to move here have done so. There was a hard core band who refused, and will probably continue to refuse, for their own reasons. I'm not going to set about trying to convince them again.

I just checked, and a reply I made in a story comment thread is still awaiting moderation. I posted it on the morning of 6 May...
My first comment in that post had to be passed by Simon, who visits here. Says it all really.
It's a shame that Dennis doesn't see the wider benefits of a forum architecture, but then it's their loss. No community, no comments on news stories, eventually the whole site will be shut down as unnecessary.
(I stopped my MacUser subscription years ago, after it became the iPodUser magazine, and seemed to have no material of any use to the jobbing designer in it at all.)

Custom PC doesn't have one (and hasn't done for years), they just use Bit-Tech now. I still have a link to X404 in my signature there though.

I stopped my subscription because most of it was iPhone/iPod stuff, and the rest of it was "do this in Photoshop", I can't afford photoshop! iCreate does a good range of apps, one issue was completely dedicated to doing things with open sourced software. I've looked around Aber from time to time, Spar, Smiths, other news agents, but they are all void of MacUser issues...

In Bexhill there are no Mac Mags available off the shelf. Tbh magazines in general are no longer relevant, or very niche at best.

Off topic, but I've just cancelled my PC Pro subscription which I think I've had for over a decade. Why? They put the price up so it's now the same as in the news agents

I think that the MacUser magazine has got a lot better over the past year. Sure, it still has a lot of iPad and iPhone stuff but I don't think it is as prevalent as it was a couple of years ago. There's usually a couple of interesting features and it still my first stop for reviews of hardware and software. It's a real shame that the forum is about to bite the dust as there were some very helpful and funny people posting there....fortunately most of them are now here.

I've actually logged out of the MU forums now. I pop back as a visitor, just to see what's happening.
It's like a corpse. Spammers have pupated and crawled into everything, and there are no moderators dealing with it. It's a sad thing to see.
Not a nice way for an old friend to go, but I have turned away, wiping a little tear from my eye, and I step on into the rest of life.

I looked at Mac mags in the supermarket the other day and noticed two things. 1) they all seemed to be a carbon copy of each other with the same "this is how you use iMovie" articles in them for example and 2) there was far too much phone/pad stuff in to make it worth me purchasing any of them.
