Need your help.

Should I buy a Samsung Galaxy S for £190 with a modded ROM (stable) running Android 2.3.4 that is two months old, but has no warranty. Or should I not?

Assume that I want a phone of that nature for a plethora of reasons and the real question here is do I buy a second hand one off a forum, or do I spend more and get a new one. The Sammy has the best screen and the Cyanogen mod looks cool.

GO!

I vote no.

Modded phone being sold on a forum? I'd be nervous tbh.

+1 very risky unless you "know" the people.

pIephone was specifically put there for you, my friend.

So nobody thinks this is a bargain? Even a brand new one is an issue, because I won't be able to use the warranty over here...

No, it'll be loaded with niggles like every Samsung phone ;)

TBH I wouldn't touch a rooted phone, and I wouldn't advise anyone else to buy a pre-rooted phone either.

From a forum, no.
From someone you know and trust, yes.

Technically, yes. But there's no repair centre here. And shipping is problematic. They really are 25yrs behind. The fastest available broadband is about 3-4meg and a lot of people haven't even heard of smartphones. Like, seriously.

I know they're still [LIFTED] cos I've got one of their phones

From the lowest end to the highest with their phones everything just seems to be bodged together IME (that bit's key). I only bought my current phone due to a lack of handsets that would have suited...

With you on the other stuff, but I dream of 3-4 meg broadband!

I would say no to modded phone. I would go for a contract piephone but with the lowest total cost of ownership possible, so you get the best of the cross subsidy but with the advantages of the piephone and decent resale value as well.

I voted no, although I am biased. I don't like Samsung phones at all.

Usually the screens are good, but the touch response sucks - stick three or four screen protectors together on the iphone, and you'll understand.

Having said that, I haven't had a play with the Galaxy S.
