I’m getting rather concerned by these year long breaks, you know. They messed around Colin Baker so much in the 1980s, he left and didn’t even film the regeneration to Sylvester McCoy.

Danny Cohen, Controller of BBC One, was speaking at an event where we got the first confirmation that Doctor Who would NOT becoming back for a full season in 2012. A member of the audience, Wayne Clarke, confirmed via twitter that "Danny Cohen says there won't be a full series of Doctor Who in 2012, but a special run for the anniversary in 2013."

Moffat’s tweet on the subject:

Dr Who: misquotes and misunderstandings. But I'm not being bounced into announcing the cool stuff before we're ready. Hush, and patience.

I read that as not showing a full season during 2012, rather than not showing anything. Perhaps they will be starting the season later in the year, crossing the xmas new year period (and incorporating the Xmas Special into the storyline)?

Moffat's response leads me to think that they could be making a few specials during the year.

Sherlock, eh? Well, at least it'll mean something worthwhile to watch while the good Doctor is taking a sabbatical.

Moffat says it's not true. Not that I've watched Dr Who since I was about 8 though.

I think if anyone can spark that one into life creatively, it’s him. The legal aspects of it seems to be the real sticking point.

I'm entirely happy to forego one Moffat show for another. Especially one that good.

Is this something that's in the pipeline? * hopes and prays that it's true *
